Switzerland are out, but they reached the quarter-finals with a very strong defense and a calm head under pressure.

They won Group B with 7 points, even after a slow start.

Their opener was a flat 1-1 draw against Qatar that had a few fans worried.

But then they played much better with a big 4-1 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina and a 2-1 win over co-host Canada to top the group.

In the round of 32 they beat Algeria 2-0 in a win they managed from start to finish.

Then came the round of 16 against Colombia, one of the dark horses of the whole tournament.

It was a tight, tense game, and after 90 minutes and extra time it was still 0-0.

So it came down to a penalty shootout, where one miss can end everything.

Switzerland were nearly perfect from the spot, and Ruben Vargas scored the winning penalty to send them through 4-3.

It is a team that is hard to break down at the back, and calm when it matters most.

Their captain is Granit Xhaka, a tough, vocal leader who is most likely playing his last World Cup and has driven them through.

They can also rely on Manuel Akanji, who is in great form after winning Serie A (the Italian league) with Inter Milan.

And to manage them we have coach Murat Yakin, who has built a defense that is very hard to get past.

In the quarter-final they pushed Argentina all the way to extra time, and even scored to make it 1-1.

But a red card left them a man short, and 2 late Argentina goals in extra time ended it 3-1.
