Canada's World Cup ended in the round of 16, beaten 3-0 by Morocco.

The score looks heavy, but for 45 minutes this was a very different game.

Canada were the best team in the first half, and they controlled most of the pitch.

But they did not manage to turn all that pressure into a goal, so it was still 0-0 at half-time.

Then Morocco took over after the break and slowly the game got away from Canada.

Azzedine Ounahi scored in the 50th minute, then again in the 82nd, and Rahimi added a third goal in the 90+3 minute.

So a bright start faded into a 3-0 defeat, and that is how the run finished.

Even with a tough final match like this one, this was a huge tournament for Canada, and it's worth stepping back to see the whole journey.

They came through the group with a 1-1 draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina, a big 6-0 win over Qatar, and a narrow 1-2 loss to Switzerland.

Then came the night they will never forget, a 1-0 win over South Africa in the round of 32.

Stephen Eustaquio hit a stunning long-range volley in the 90+2 minute for Canada's first ever World Cup knockout win.

They reached the round of 16 for the first time in their history, which is an incredible step forward when you remember that before 2022 they had never even scored a goal at a World Cup.

Coach Jesse Marsch and his fast, pressing style took the co-hosts further than ever before.

They are out, and they are the first of the 3 co-hosts to go, but this is a run the whole country can be proud of.
