Eliminated in the quarter-finals

Lost 1-2 to England

Norway are the story of this whole World Cup.

After 28 years away from the competition, they just had the most incredible run in their history.

They then beat the 5-time world champions Brazil in the round of 16, before losing a tight game against England in the quarter-finals.

How did Norway's World Cup end?

Nobody expected Norway to get this far, and their brave run only ended in the quarter-finals.

This is their first World Cup since 1998, so just being back after 28 years was already special.

They opened with a big 4-1 win over Iraq that told everyone they had come to enjoy themselves.

Then came a wild 3-2 win over Senegal.

And even if they lost 1-4 to France, they had already done enough to go through.

Then the real story began.

In the round of 32 they beat Ivory Coast 2-1 to get their first knockout win.

And it is their superstar Erling Haaland (who plays for Manchester City) who scored the winning goal in the 86th minute.

But nothing they had done matched what came next.

In the round of 16 they knocked out Brazil, one of the biggest shocks the World Cup has ever seen.

For a long time it was 0-0, with goalkeeper Orjan Nyland saving a penalty and keeping the champions out.

Then Haaland struck twice late, in the 79th and 90th minutes, to win it 2-1.

Those goals took him to 7 for the tournament, second only to Lionel Messi on 8.

Around Haaland there is real class too, from captain Martin Odegaard (Arsenal) to the powerful Alexander Sorloth.

And this whole run is in big part due to their coach Stale Solbakken, who built all of this.

He has now taken Norway further than they have ever been.

But unfortunately their run came to a stop after they met England in the quarter-finals.

They managed to push the English team to extra time, but then lost 2-1 to 2 goals from Jude Bellingham.

Even so, this was the best run in Norway's history, and with Erling Haaland, you know they will be back stronger in 4 years.
