Algeria are out, but they fought right to the end and made this a tournament to remember.

They finished 3rd in Group J with 4 points, enough to finish as one of the 8 best 3rd-place teams.

They lost 0-3 to Argentina, then beat Jordan 2-1 and drew a thriller 3-3 with Austria to reach the knockouts.

That took them into the round of 32 for the first time since 2014, which was a real win for the country.

Then they met Switzerland, which is a tough and well-organized side that is hard to get past at the back.

Algeria pushed forward and tried hard to score, but they could not, and they lost 0-2.

They were led all the way by their captain Riyad Mahrez.

He's an exceptional right winger who beats defenders, scores goals, and sets up chances for his team-mates.

But this time it wasn't enough to go past the round of 32.

Aissa Mandi, who has played more games for Algeria than almost anyone, held the defense together.

So they go home beaten, but with huge credit for their fight and for reaching the knockouts.
